Melondrama will drop on August 31st, two weeks after the label's eighth birthday celebrations.
Australian producer Cale Sexton's debut album, Melondrama, is coming out via Butter Sessions in August.
According to the liner notes, the Melbourne artist—who has been one of the label's core acts since its early days—is the result of 12 months of writing and recording in the studio amid a "step back from live performance." The album's nine tracks span "electro-synth, deep milky way ambience and mutant drum machine funk," according to the notes, meant to act as an "antidote to the deluge of modern electronica that's designed for speed listening."
Melondrama is Butter Sessions' first full artist album after nearly 20 12-inches and two compilations. It's due out two weeks after the imprint's eighth birthday celebrations.
To mark the anniversary, label heads Sleep D lead a night at The Night Cat in Melbourne on August 17th featuring sets from Sexton plus Rings Around Saturn, Albrecht La'Brooy, Mosam Howieson, Millú and Darcy Justice. The record also follows the publication of Mind Haze, an 80-page book of illustrations and graphic design by Maryos Syawish (one half of Sleep D and the driving force behind the label's distinctive aesthetic). The book includes sleeve artwork, poster designs, logos and sketches.
