Set to launch at the start of the New Year, Beatport is a new online music store offering digital downloads with a specifically designed website to cater for DJs and dance music in general. It has been 14 months in the making and has involved many people from all different backgrounds with Bad Boy Bill saying "Beatport represents the first major website to combine the minds of DJs, marketers, promoters and retailers to sell digital downloads the same way you would if you went to the record store. DJs show differently than consumers and we've accounted for both on our site."
Beatport will contain an extensive catalog of music across all genres with features that enhance the online shopping experience including genre exclusive forums, custom play lists based on length of set, genre and pace and top 10 charts from top DJs, clubs and labels.
President of Beatport, Jonas Tempel, comments on why Beatport is so important. The future of promoting and distributing dance music is being revolutionised by Beatport. Sending out vinyl is a costly and timely thing of the past. Beatport's PromoOneTM feature allows a label or DJ to promote new music instantaneously. A track can be released and debuted at the clubs in the time it typically takes to drive to the record store."
