Matthew Dear’s debut LP Leave Luck to Heaven has received heavenly praise for not only its stripped down melodic electro pop grooves but his on-point vocals. With a handful of pseudonyms already on release with Plus-8 and Perlon, this album is a perfect credit to Dear’s production skills and worthy of your listening ears this month. If like me you’re getting rather tired of that click house and minimal sound that goes nowhere slowly, then this album is quite possibly a bold projection of where the electronic music scene would like to be. A diverse collection of tracks, each is individually carved out of Dear’s unique spin on rhythm and sound, carved up synth patterns, killer beats and dreamy vocals. There’s deep glitchy and dark numbers as well as the balanced pop numbers with electro hooks. Enough descriptions – go listen. Go see live.
