Beans is back with a can of stomping hip hop business in the shape of new single Down By Law and its supercharged with his truly original rhyming skills, and infectious hip hop beats. Released this week on Warp, Beans breathes new life into the hiphop scene which has all too recently wallowed into critical levels of self importance, corporate sponsorship and misogyny. So its with great delight that when RA cues up the new Beans record we find its got nothing to do with hoes, caps in asses or bling jewellery, but everything to do waving your arms in the arm and getting down to the rhythm and lyrics that Beans delivers like a bullet. And that’s the only gun like reference you’ll get.
Formally of Anti Pop Consortium, Beans means business with this latest release and it’s a true to form reflection of his slightly left of centre presence in the wider hip hop scene. A truly original styler, player and music maker, Beans records are often packed full of intriguing rhymes, rhythms and metaphors and this is no exception.
The new album Shock City Maverick is due on the 18th of October and we’re also promised a stunning live show with full band. Get on the Beans bandwagon early.
