  • UK act Starskee will be visiting Melbourne on Friday 8 July to play Honkytonks. They'll be supported by Boogs & Spacey Space. Starskee’s claim to fame is the well known remix of Midnight Star’s ‘Midas Touch’ which stormed the airwaves and dance floors alike. It's a quirky, cool number and definitely catchy. Starskee are Matt Booker and Jolyon Barker. Both hailing from the UK, Booker started DJing in 1991. In 1992 he was involved in the creation of Global Grooves, the infamous midlands record shop / café bar which soon became an essential shopping ground for superstar DJs, the headquarters of many successful regular parties, and even home to Birmingham’s first Sunday-morning sessions, The Breakfast Club. 1993 saw Booker doing his first remix for Freaky Realistic, an elite south London band who still today influence many new bands and DJs. Over the next years he became a well-known and world travelled DJ with residencies in Brighton, Toronto, as well as for the legendary Liverpool based super-club Cream. In 1995 he produced under the name Pink Bomb with Daren Bayton and Rob Preston and was signed to Quad Communications. Pink Bomb had many successful releases but it was ‘Indica’ that established them with the likes of Sasha, John Digweed, Danny Howells. Moving to Toronto in 1998, Booker worked with producer James Doman on a project called Cargo Funk. 2002 saw the coming together of two different musical backgrounds in a successful partnership and the forming of Starskee. With recent success in Australia with a highest chart entry in the National charts of number 11 and a number 1 in the dance charts for 5 weeks Midnight Stars ‘Midas Touch’ Starskee remix took on a life of it’s own. Matt’s partner in Starskee, Jolyon Barker has written for and produced artists including John Cooke, Gus Swanson, and Muir besides working extensively on music for amateur film / emerging directors. Entry is $10 on the door.
