  • Luke Solomon (UK) is a DJ, producer and label boss who started out in the industry 12 years ago when he was hired to buy dance tracks for an old soul record shop in North London. From that job he has built a diverse career in music and a reputation as a "Freak" in a good way! Luke Solomon is responsible for some of the quirkiest and cutting edge house music on offer. He’s probably most well known for setting up respected house music label, Classic Records, with Chicago maestro Derrick Carter, while more recently, defining his sound through the label Music For Freaks label and moniker. Five years ago, Justin Harris and Luke Solomon formed Freaks. Since then they have a plethora of singles on several different labels, such as Pagan, 20;20 Vision, Phono, Guidance, Classic Recordings, Large, Estereo, Seasons, Playhouse, Panhandle and 611. Luke and Justin have also had great success and gained huge respect in the remix field, as Freaks, remixing everybody from Pulp through Alison Limmerick to Soft Cell. In early 1999 “Music For Freaks” was born and Freaks found a home for their unorthodox House. When it comes to DJing Luke Solomon's partner in crime is Kenny Hawkes. Together they run London deep house stalwart mid week club Space. Luke plays all over the globe, holding down residencies at Fuse in Belgium, at The Robert Johnson in Franfurt, Space in Chicago and New York (alongside Kenny), and his new Classic residency at The End in London with Derrick Carter and Rob Mello. Luke Solomon will be the special guest at Fire & Ice at Alumbra on Saturday July 23. The night will provide an opportunity to get up close and intimate with one of the legends of the dance music underground in one of Melbourne’s most esteemed venues. Luxurious and sophisticated, Moroccan-themed, riverfront bar Alumbra is a regular haunt for touring DJs such as Derrick Carter, Theo Parish and Little Mark. In fact, Carl Cox makes it his watering hole when he’s back in the country visiting his Frankston based summer house. Support soundtrack comes via the illustrious locals Simon Digby and Franky D. Tickets for this event are strictly limited and will be available on Wednesday 6 July from Rhythm & Soul Records (City & Prahran) and Alumbra. For more information phone Alumbra on (03) 8606 44660 or visit their website.
