Rotterdam club RTM secures rare 24-hour license

- RTM now has a 24-hour license. After opening in September 2019, the Rotterdam basement venue is getting an extended license. Originally RTM held the standard bar license, which permits venue to stay open till 2 AM with 13 exceptions of 6 AM closures allowed per year. The club now holds the city's other license, which means RTM can stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These are Rotterdam's only two options for cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs, and the 24-hour permit is extremely rare. The RTM team, which also runs Blijdorp Festival, tells Resident Advisor the venue wanted to show the local council that it could successfully run without noise complains for its opening season ahead of pursuing the 24-hour permit. While the city's new independent night council, N8W8, launched in January this year, did not have direct role in advocating for the club's expansion, the team credits the organisation for pushing the conversation forward with local authorities and raising awareness on the legal difficulties venues face. The upgraded license has taken immediate effect. RTM has not yet revealed any plans for 24-hour parties.
