  • After a moderately successful event this year (It was the first, so teething problems could be expected and it will get better as they learn more) the Encompass crew have announced their plans for its return to the capital in 2006 with more quality live acts, DJs, art, workshops, seminars and great parties spread over 3 nights in May. In 2005 Encompass launched with a vision of bringing music, art, business and parties under one unifying London umbrella. It was an important time for Encompass with theun inspiring ‘London Calling’ launching in the same year. Anyone who attended both will know that LC was using the term ‘conference’ very loosely and the Encompass gathering of punters mixing it with industry purse holders and big wigs has a far brighter future. Taking all learning’s from the first edition into account and taking over five venues in the Shoreditch area Encompass 2006 will take place on the nights of Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th. Organiser Jon Terry is clearly looking forward to building on the positives from this year:
“We’re focussing on the Festival and the Workshop as the two best elements of our first year. In addition, we are expanding the partner event programme: promoters interested in participating should visit the website to find out more and we are also looking for unsigned acts to play support slots at each label showcase, so send demos in now.”
Each night an Encompass wristband will give you access to every showcase. There will also be an extended programme of partnered events across London including gigs, exhibitions, talks and discounts. The Workshop will take place during the day and provide an opportunity to learn more about the culture and business behind music. It will be aimed at all music fans and those wanting to learn more about the behind the scenes workings of the music industry. From one to one 15 minute mentor sessions with accountants, managers, agents, lawyers and publishers to interviews with artists, label directors and industry figureheads the workshop will give fresh insight to those already in the industry and a wealth of knowledge to those looking to gain access into the business of music. More details and artists/acts to be announced in 2006.
