  • The City of Detroit has chosen the Paxahau Promotions Group to produce this year’s Electronic Music Festival (aka Movement and Fuse-In) on Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29. After a press release last month by 2005 Festival Director, Kevin Saunderson, that the necessary financial objectives to run the festival again had not been met, as in past years, the festival looked like not going ahead. Financial viability has long been one of the key problems faced by previous organisers, which have also included Derrick May and Carl Craig, resulting in a small admission fee being charged for the first time in 2005. However, Lucius A. Vassar, the City of Detroit’s Chief Administrative Officer, says, “Paxahau presented a sound plan to stabilize and grow the event. We want to see this event flourish and continue to draw people from all over the world to Detroit.” Paxahau, which is owned by Jason Huvaere, has been organising electronic events in Detroit since 1998 and has grown to become one of the cities premier promotions group within the electronic music industry. The group has also branched out to include a record label, booking agency and website featuring some of the best archived DJ sets available. Under Paxahau's direction, the 2006 festival will retain the name “Movement, Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival”. “We see the festival as an opportunity to bring Detroit’s influence all over the world home and nourish one of Detroit’s primary opportunities for tourism and development,” said Jason Huvaere. Movement, Detroit's Electronic Music Festival 2006 will take place over three days on Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29 with further details regarding the festival to be released at a later date.
