  • This April sees Ghostly International's sister label, Spectral, drop its latest release 'Oochie Coo' from James T. Cotton. Formed in the year 2000 and more geared toward the dancefloor than Ghostly International, Spectral has made a name for itself releasing 'moody, leftfield techno and house' from relative unknowns including Mathew Dear, Osborne, James T. Cotton, and Hieroglyphic Being. Having worked with notable artists including Roman Flugel, Pantytec (Perlon) and Reinhard-Voigt (Kompakt), the label is deeply involved in all aspects of its releases including the design of its eye-catching 12 inch sleeves. For Spectral's 35th release, Tadd Mullinix dons his acid house guise, James T. Cotton, having also had a few hip hop excursions as Dabrye. Cotton previously garnered critical acclaim for his 'Mind Your Manners' release, receiving props from DJs including John Tejada and Magda, and his ‘Buck! EP’, which referenced classic techno and Belgian new beats. On ‘Oochie Coo’, Cotton presents three dark, Chicago acid inspired numbers including the title track 'Oochie Coo', 'My Zel', and 'T-Y-O-C-Painkillers'. All three cuts really pick up on those Chicago vibes and allow the listener to easily visualise the ‘Warehouse’ type response this music was generated for. James T. Cotton - 'Oochie Coo' is released on Spectral Sound on April 18th, 2006.
