Norwegian ambient minimalist Geir Jenssen aka Biosphere is to perform a live accompaniment to a film by artist and filmmaker Egbert Mittelstaedt this month in theatres around the UK.
Biosphere's album Substrata is frequently cited as one of the seminal records of the 1990s, and one of the greatest ambient releases of all time. Further releases on the acclaimed UK label Touch have only cemented his reputation, with music both calming and confronting, where tiny shards and strands of digital sound are weaved into engrossing compositions. His new album 'Dropsonde' (released March 20th) sees Jenssen exploring new directions, evoking the jazz colours of Miles Davis and Jon Hassell, whilst re-invigorating the pulse and projection of his signature sound: a hypnotic combination of pleasure and dread.
Cologne-based Egbert Mittelstaedt's videos, photographs and installations have won him awards at the European Media Art Festival, the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel and a Digital New Art award. His work investigates notions of time in an almost tangible way, pushing and twisting motion into elusive, continually shifting patterns.
Biosphere's and Mittelstaedt's collaborative work developed spontaneously at a Biosphere concert in 2004 and combine most seductively: an event not to be missed.
