Itinerant DJ Paul Oakenfold is once again causing a stir with news of a new north American tour, this time promoting his second album 'A Lively Mind' on Maverick records. The twelve track album offers a few novel collaborations for Oakenfold, compiling sounds representative of a distinct progression towards commercial appeal. The result is a a dance/electronic/rock hybrid.
Originally set for release April 25, the album’s release date was pushed ahead to allow for a proper introduction to the album's first single ‘Faster Kill Pussycat’. Now a Hollywood Hills resident, it comes as no surprise that Oakenfold is mixing it with US celebrities. The most notable collaboration on the album is Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy’s singing debut on the album’s track ‘Faster Kill Pussycat’. Other alliances of note include Grandmaster Flash on ‘Set It Off’ and modern hip-hop great Pharrell Williams on ‘Sex 'N Money’. The latter was partuclarly close to Oakies heart as in reference to his new shallow neighbours:”It's a song about how soulless the Hollywood party scene can be. I've been in situations where people are introduced to me and then they spot a celebrity standing nearby and they disappear literally mid sentence. So the track is really Hollywood in a nutshell for me--it's all sex and money. We deconstructed our original track and rewrote it for Pharrell in a way that's melodic and hypnotic and just keeps coming back at you in waves."
