  • Protests by residents to halt the Creamfields festival have fallen on deaf ears. The council has given organisers the go-ahead to hold the event at its new location in Daresbury.

  • Ticketholders to this year's Creamfields UK festival can sleep easy. News has surfaced that this year's event was a cat's whisker away from being cancelled but the council has come good and the party will go ahead as planned. Organisers were forced to look further (ahem) afield for another location due to redevelopment at Liverpool Airfield where Creamfields has been held for the past nine years. However, residents near the proposed new site of Daresbury Estate voiced concerns to the local council about noise levels and the likelihood of an influx of crime and anti-social behaviour in the semi-rural community. But what's a few angry cows and a slight ringing and thump thump in the ears for a day or so when the festival is estimated to inject £3 million (that's a lot of bottles of water and doner kebabs) into the local economy? Organisers won over local authorities by committing to making Daresbury the festival's permanent future home and pledging to consider residents concerns. Roughly 45000 ravers are expected to rock up for the ninth edition of Creamfields to see DJs including Paul Van Dyk, Layo & Bushwacka, DJ Shadow, Roger Sanchez, Steve Angello,Tiga, M.A.N.D.Y, and Digitalism. Creamfields UK takes place at Daresbury Estate on Saturday August 26th, 2006 so now is the time to dig out your fluoro pink furry leg warmers and your horns and whistles. Probably best not to bank on directions from locals if you lose your way so don't forget to print off the map to the new festival site.
