  • New white label 'Rudebox' sees a mysterious someone with the initials RW making a stab at the dancefloor. And it's not Raquel Welsh. So who could it be now? On our last dash to the record store RA spied a white label sporting the title 'Soul Mekanik vs RW'. RW? Hmm. While we were scratching our heads, EMI confirmed the 12" is in fact remixes of the first single from Robbie Williams' forthcoming album '1974' due for release in September. Co-produced by Soul Mekanik, the features remixes from the Chicken Lips and Riton. '1974' is rumoured to be Williams first dance album and first single 'Rudebox' is described as a "nasty, dirty, bass infused electro-funk-pop monster". It was produced by Williams himself with Soul Mekanik's Danny Spencer and Kelvin Andrews who have previously worked with Robbie on 'Rock DJ' (2000). Co-producer Andrews had this to say: "Rudebox is wonky pop music, influenced by the underground. It was just three lads from Stoke having fun in the studio, no rules and no knobheads." It's too early to tell, but with remixes from Get Physical electrohouser Riton and nu disco/retrofunk maestros Chicken Lips, Soul Mechanik could do for Robbie what Jacques Lu Cont did for Madge with 'Confessions on a Dancefloor' - could Robbie Williams be a serious club contender? Williams fans and the curious can hear the original on a snippet of the music video for 'Rudebox'. The 'fat woman' in the clip sporting the England jersey and pulling some fancy moves to the tune of "Do the rudebox. Shake your rudebox. Why you so nasty?" is supposedly the bad boy of pop himself. Robbie Williams 'Rudebox' including remixes by Soul Mekanik, Chicken Lips and Riton is released on EMI on September 4, 2006.
