  • Filmmakers ZU33 have put out a casting call for mad synthesizer geniuses to star in their latest feature-length documentary 'Synth God'. The more strange and original, the better. If you are a synthesizer player who aspires to join the Synth God pantheon, or know a fanatical synth boffin with a basement full of gear put to nutty use, ZU33 want you to get in touch. Filmmaker Hans Fjellestad will direct the film, which heads into production in July 2006. Fjellestad describes the project: "Over the past 50 years, keyboardists and composers have used the synthesizer to stake out new territory in music, filling our heads with all kinds of unexpected sounds and ideas. These are the Synth Gods. Their pantheon is massive and full of all shapes, sounds and flavors. There are the heroes and legendary figures – which of course we are already working with – but I'm certain there are also hoards of strange and undiscovered deities out there." Producer Ryan Page adds: "The support from the music community has been amazing. There are so many people who have already stepped up to participate behind the camera and in front of it. This project is shaping up to be something more comprehensive and huge than any doc we've made to date." Hans Fjellestad's previous directorial effort ‘Moog’ was a feature-length documentary on synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog which received wide international theatrical distribution. The film was critically acclaimed, with the London Daily Telegraph calling it "brilliantly inspiring on many levels." The director is also working on a narrative feature film ‘Lords of Chaos’ about the Norwegian Black Metal music scene, based on the book of the same name. "I want to paint a huge crazy mural about every Synth God species on the planet, and the instrument that gives them their power,” says Fjellestad. Aspiring screen deities can check the EU33 website for details.
