Latest comp on French dance-rock imprint Kitsune includes new rave faves Simian Mobile Disco and Klaxons. 'Maison Compilation 3' hits stores next month.
So what the heck is new rave? Kitsune is one of the labels spearheading the latest trend: glowstick-wielding teenagers jumping around to cuts with rocky basslines, dirty synths and indie guitars. Think 'We are Your Friends' with smiley faces. British indie rag NME is behind the movement, so you know it’s going to be big (at least for a bit) – the magazine has even sponsored a club tour of England dubbed the New Rave Revolution, featuring acts such as Klaxons, Shit Disco and Datarock.
Looking for an intro to the scene? You could do no worse then 'Kitsune Maison 3', an unmixed compilation of tracks (some unreleased) by some of the movement’s newest proponents: Klaxons, Boyz Noise and Simian Mobile Disco. There's also a new remix of Digitalism's big hit 'Zdarlight' and a cut from the latest Kitsune 12" by Alex Gopher.
So “new rave” then. RA is very excited about this magazines-coining-genre-names bizzo – our next corporate conference will have it as item one on the agenda.
