  • Progressive house pioneers Spooky, aka Charlie May and Duncan Forbes, team up again for a third studio album. 'Open' arrives in late June. Spooky are best known for the early nineties album 'Gargantuan' and its big singles 'Little Bullet' and 'Schmoo' on early progressive house label Guerilla. Since then the pair have focused on individual careers with May often credited as the brains behind many of Sasha's productions including his biggest hit 'Xpander'. But don't expect an album of progressive club bangers. The album comes as a double CD of chilled electronic pop and includes several collaborations with vocalist Julie Daske as well as new remixes of last year's single 'No Return' and older hit 'Belong'. "We wanted to move away from club records and make an album of songs but still using mostly electronic sounds," explains May. "One disc is mellow and warm and you can sing along to it. The other is even mellower and warmer and contains radically different versions of the first CD." 'Open' tracklist Disc 1 1 Belong (Open Version) 2 New Light 3 No Return 4 What Are We Waiting For 5 Shelter 6 It’s So Late 7 Strange Addiction 8 The River 9 An Ending Disc 2 1 Belong (Echospace dub) 2 What Are We Waiting For (Dub) 3 New Light In Dub 4 Shelter (Slow Phase) 5 No Return (Dorset Echo) 6 The River (Ambient) 7 Strange Addiction (Dub Addiction) 8 New Light (Slow) 9 Celeste The pair have also started to perform live as Spooky, with gigs at The Warehouse Project in Manchester and Space in Ibiza last year. "We run two computers in sync," says May. "One has mainly finished versions of all the tunes, the other has heaps of edits and individual parts from the same tracks so we can chop and change to our hearts' content and basically remix on the fly. We also have a small arsenal of MIDI controllers and effects to play with." 'Open' by Spooky will be released on June 26 on the duo's own label Spooky.
