  • Sasu Ripatti aka Luomo/Vladislav Delay will perform the soundtrack to an Aki Kaurismäki film this weekend in Barcelona. Ripatti will perform a live score to the 1990 film I Hired a Contract Killer directed by cult Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, also known for his morbid comedy hits Leningrad Cowboys Go America (1994) and The Match Factory Girl (1990). The marriage of Ripatti’s music with Kaurismäki’s images promises to be an intriguing mix, not least since both are Finnish artists, but also as to the guise that Ripatti might take. Ripatti is billed as 'Vladislav Delay aka Luomo' which could mean anything given his distinct creative approach for each identity, as revealed in a recent RA interview. Will it be something along the lines of 'Anima' or the more house-driven sensuality of 'Paper Tigers?'. The performance takes place at Barcelona's newest and most futuristic building, Richard Roger's Hesperia Towers, complete with its flying saucer rooftop atrium. Also billed with Ripatti and Kaurismäki is Spanish artist Xavier González, whose sound-space installations 'Blue Bird Rooms' will be displayed in the tower. Ripatti joins Jeff Mills ('Metropolis'); Andrew Weatherall ('Nosferatu'), Laurent Garnier ('Finnis Terrae') as other contemporary electronic musicians who have put electronic music to film in a live setting.
