  • Italians Do It Better stars Chromatics make their UK debut at Lasermagnetic/Warm next weekend. Your first gig in a country is always going to be a nervous affair. Which is why it must be lovely for Chromatics who have, as support for their UK debut, one of those line-ups that makes you drool and think: "Blimey – all that in one night?" Alongside their own glassy disco are DJ sets from house heroes Âme, best known for their anthem 'Rej'; Studio, whose album 'West Coast' was one of the best of 2007 and Mike Simonetti, boss of Chromatics' label Italians do it Better. It's pretty much a mini-festival of what should be a very splendid night of louche, European sounds indeed, set in the trendy environs of Cafe 1001 in East London's Brick Lane. By day the venue is a hang-out for the in crowd to watch the trendies roll by and eat burgers cooked on the barbecue. By night they open up the back doors which lead through to a cosy warehouse space. Perhaps best of all is that if you're really enjoying yourself then stay till the end and hide in the loo for a few hours – come Sunday late morning the place re-opens as a minimal techno all-dayer. Chromatics, for those who have had their ears in the sand for the last year, are arguably the shining light of Italians do it Better, which has also put out material from Black Dice, Wolf Eyes and Glass Candy. Their sad, sombre and monochrome take on disco sounds like Blondie only with a heroin habit. It's as satisfying as it is superficial. The night is being organised by disco aficionados Lasermagnetic and Warm, who have been responsible for some damn fine parties, notably Laser's Balearic special last year at Corsica Studios. This combined jaunt should be very special.
