UK electro pioneer DJ Greg Wilson returns with a label mix for 2020:Vision.
Those who think dance music started in the late eighties, think again. Manchester DJ Greg Wilson started spinning in 1975, playing legendary clubs such as Wigan Pier in the seventies and the Hacienda back in 1983. He was even the first person ever to DJ on British telly:
Twenty years later Wilson is back, playing old school electro and disco at his Music is Better night in Manchester, documenting the history of electro on his website, and putting out disco reedits on Tirk.
Next up comes up a label compilation mixed for Ralph Lawson, which marries material from the 2020 Vision catalogue with Wilson’s trademark spins and overdubs. Originally Lawson planned to release a new mix of classic Wilson selections, but the project was thwarted due to licensing costs. Lawson describes the result as “very unique and something I couldn’t have come up with from my own label. I even found Greg picking out tracks where I had to ask, ‘What’s that one again?’ Embarrassing but true.”
