  • Michael Mayer and Kompakt's marketing manager Jon Berry are set to launch their new Fright imprint next month. The label will be quite a departure from the usual house and techno that you'd associate with Kompakt, focusing instead on the dark disco-tinged tracks that look to producers like John Carpenter and Claudio Simonetti for inspiration. The first producer to unveil their "serial killer synth symphonies" on the label will be Chicago's Gatekeeper (not to be confused with the Bristol-based dubstep producer of the same name), whose Optimum Maximus EP will include four tracks packed with Moroder-esque arpeggios, trippy Moog antics and pulsating nocturnal basslines. A music video for the title track has also been produced by Arawa.fm's Tommy Boy, who has previously lent his video editing skills to the music of Telepathe, CFCF and The Butthole Surfers.
