  • Munich's Permanent Vacation imprint will issue a collection of tracks created in the German Democratic Republic during the '80s. Entitled Mandarinen Träume: Electronic Escapes from the Deutsche Demokraktische Republik 1981-1989, the unmixed single-disc compilation will focus on the kosmiche music coming out of former East Germany in the last decade before the fall of the Berlin Wall. From the '50s through to the '80s, a state-owned group called VEB Deutsche Schallplatten had the sole control over what was released in the region, with the Amiga imprint being the home for the contemporary pop and rock music of the time. It was on this label that the productions found on this collection were released, with the state-sanctioned artists taking their cues from the more serene end of the Krautrock genre and producers such as Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, pushing the sound forward with the help of modern synthesiser technology. Selected by Groove journalist Florian Sievers, the compilation gives an insight into the music being produced in a tense time for residents of the DDR, with the tracks being framed as an escape for the everyday realities of life before the reunification of Germany took place at the end of the decade. Reinhard Lakomy, Wolfgang Paulke, Julius Krabs, Key and Pond are the key artists that feature multiple times on the release, with Hans-Hasso Stamer and Servi also featuring. Tracklist 01.
