- Flying Lotus and Moodymann are amongst the guest contributors to the jazzy singer-songwriter's sophomore full-length.
José James will issue his second album via Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings imprint next month.
Since being picked up for a track on Peterson's first Brownswood Bubblers compilation, the Minneapolis-born singer has become a firm part of the Brownswood family, and it's easy to see why with the silky smooth vocals and dusky jazz grooves that were showcased on his debut album. While James took it upon himself to produce most of The Dreamer solo, with sophomore effort Blackmagic, he's called on the likes of Flying Lotus, Moodymann, and Jazzy Sport's DJ Mitsu The Beats to help him go one further this time around. Fly Lo was involved from an early stage in the writing and recording process, and lends his loose hip-hop charms to a wide number of tracks on the record, with Kenny Dixon Jr. contributing the lilting jazz-funk of "Detroit Loveletter," and Mitsu going for a warm and uplifting brass vibe on "Promise In Love." James has even turned his hand to a jazz adaptation of Benga's pulsating dubstep anthem "Emotions," adding his own vocals and re-titling the track "Warrior."
