  • The Bunker will celebrate its eighth anniversary this Friday night, with extended sets from Donato Dozzy and Optimo. Run by Bryan Kasenic, AKA Spinoza, The Bunker is an intimate monthly gathering that holds cutting-edge programming as one of its top priorities. Since it began in 2003, the party has given electronic fans in the Northeast a rare chance to see some of Europe's finest underground DJs and live acts, including Surgeon, Monolake and the residents of Berlin's Berghain / Panorama Bar, who have held a quarterly residency there since last spring. Due to the party's preference for deeper sounds, guests are often pushed to play extended sets; this weekend's party features total of three 8-hour performances. Few lineups could be so diverse with so few artists. Dozzy, who will take care of the back room, is known for coursing through ambient, kraut rock and most importantly techno in his sets. Optimo have equally deep crates but an entirely different style: refined over the years during their residency at Glasgow's Sub Club, their sound is a mosaic of obscure post-punk, left-field disco and the occasional indie, house or techno tune. As these acts enter the final stretch downstairs, Perc Trax artist and Bunker resident Derek Plaslaiko will get started on an afterhours slot in the loft. The whole thing wraps up sometime around noon on January 8th.
