  • Detroit garage rock band The Dirtbombs will release an album of techno covers next month called Party Store. The Dirtbombs are fronted by Mick Collins, a Detroit native who made a name for himself in the '80s singing for the now-defunct punk band The Gories. His own music has never strayed from dirty, blues-influenced rock, but he was nonetheless exposed to his city's techno scene as it developed throughout '80s and '90s. His connection to electronic music today is unclear, though last year he appeared on the track "No Feedback" from Moody's Ol' Dirty Vinyl. Party Store pays homage to some of Detroit's earliest techno classics, like Derrick May's "Strings of Life," Cybotron's "Cosmic Cars" and a 21-minute interpretation Innerzone Orchestra'a "Bug in the Bass Bin," featuring original band member Carl Craig on modular synth. It's not the first time The Dirtbombs have interpreted other people's work: their second album Ultraglide in Black, which greatly boosted the group's popularity back in 2001, consisted mostly Motown and R&B covers. Tracklist 01. Cosmic Cars 02. Sharevari 03. Good Life (Basement Roots Mix) 04. Strings of Life 05. Alleys Of Your Mind 06. Bug In The Bass Bin 07. Jaguar 1. 08. Tear The Club Up 09. ?????-???(Detoroito Mix) In the Red will release Party Store on February 1st, 2011.
