- The next compilation on Gilles Peterson's label highlights bass music up-and-comers from around the globe.
Next month, Brownswood Recordings will release Brownswood Electr*c 2, a compilation showcasing lesser-known bass artists from around the world.
The aim of the series is to explore the range of sub-heavy styles that often get lumped together as dubstep, for lack of a better term. Hemlock co-founder Untold described the first edition as "a really spot-on snapshot of the grey area of 'dance' music that keeps getting messier." That collection featured tracks by Mount Kimbie, Pearson Sound and a raft of relatively unknown artists. The new one is free of big names altogether, highlighting up-and-comers from all reaches of the globe, including Australia, Japan, San Francisco, Germany and the UK. Styles range from wobbly 2-step to Brainfeeder-esque hip-hop beats. Head over to Brownswood's SoundCloud page for a sampler of the album.
