  • This October, Profan will release Kafkatrax, a compilation of Wolfgang Voigt's recent string of EPs. Much like last year's Freiland Klaviermusik, Kafkatrax shows the Kompakt co-founder's avant-garde side. This time his focus is the human voice, layered over a 4/4 pulse. For source material, Voigt used recitations of Kafka's writing, but his choice of this author in particular is mostly incidental: the material is so thoroughly chopped up and rearranged that it becomes "entirely meaningless to the final product." Reduced to unintelligible fragments, the voices have a strange and hypnotic effect that characterizes the album. All of the songs on Kafkatrax were originally released over the past few months in a three-part series of limited edition, hand-painted vinyl. Tracklist 01. Kafkatrax 1.0 02. Kafkatrax 1.1 03.
