Hybridity Music launches with Humans

What exactly is Hybridity? Hybridity is an artist-run group based on the concept of creating collaborative art projects. These projects focus around electronic music, visuals, installations, and interactivity with an overarching goal of creating immersive, challenging, and evolved experiences for both artists and audiences. We collaborate with artists working in various disciplines, helping them within concepts, visioning, and reaching their creative potential. The record label is a branch of this overarching narrative. What's the meaning behind the name, and how will the focus on multimedia be executed? The name Hybridity comes out of a larger discussion around the hybrid nature of culture, art, identity and almost everything in the present day world. Everything is so interconnected and influenced by other things. By creating forms of art that are hybrid in nature, we feel that it speaks to audiences that almost expect such at this time. The name came to me a few years ago when I was out at a show, and for some reason couldn't help but just sort of watch all the different types of people — the music, the visuals, and the surroundings — and was amazed by how everything had seemingly morphed into each other. The name Hybridity just sort of came out of me describing it at that time. How is Victoria's Sub|division group involved with the label, and will you be branching out from Canadian artists in the future? We think it's really important to involve key players from our community who are doing really interesting things. Sub|division has an incredible lineup of artists, and by working with them we all win. It's like a two-heads-are-better-than-one idea... or eight heads or something. I think it was important for us to start with artists we knew and respected, taking a really grassroots mentality towards the label. We definitely want to branch out and work with artists from elsewhere, but this seemed to make the most sense as a starting point. Working with Longshanks/Monolithium and the Sub|division crew has been incredible so far. What kind of events and other art projects will Hybridity be involved with, besides just releasing music?
