  • Queer disco troupe Horse Meat Disco will headline Sydney promoter Picnic's fourth birthday celebrations on March 17th. Since its genesis in 2008, Picnic has been responsible for a wide range of artist tours and Sydney parties, generally covering disco, house and techno, from DJ Harvey to Derrick May. The party next weekend will be Horse Meat Disco's third Picnic appearance in as many years. Having now released three compilations on boutique London label Strut, the camp disco collective has grown significantly from its beginnings as a gay night in Vauxhall, with the group holding residencies at clubs in Berlin and Lisbon as well as hosting regular international parties and playing some of the world's top festivals. The birthday party will be held at a Sydney warehouse whose details have yet to be disclosed, and will feature DJs in two rooms. The main room, with Horse Meat Disco playing a three-hour set, will also be manned by locals Stephen Allkins, Matt Vaughan and Tamas Jones of Hey Convict!, while a handful of artists from Picnic's recently established DJ agency will be spinning in the other room. The party is BYO only and begins at 9:00 PM. Tickets are available here on RA.
