  • Playground Weekender has been officially cancelled after the possibility of major flooding in the area became a serious concern. The camping festival, held at Wisemans Ferry just north of Sydney, was to hold its sixth annual event this weekend with an extensive lineup headed by Chic & Nile Rodgers, until local police and emergency services advised it would not be safe to go ahead with the proceedings, with the threat of adverse weather conditions potentially making travel and camping unsafe. The Bureau of Meteorology told the SES that "the extensive flooding that has been forecast poses a significant risk to persons and property within the affected area," advice which was passed on to the festival organisers. Playground Music's director Andy Rigby issued the following statement to ticket holders:
We have been planning this event all year and were anticipating it as much as our guests were. The safety of the guests, artists and staff at the event, and on their way to and from the event, is our main priority. Reluctantly we have followed advice that it would be unsafe to ask people to travel in these weather conditions, and as such the event cannot go ahead.
The promoters are currently seeking an alternative venue in case portions of the festival will be able to continue elsewhere. Festival goers will be contacted with information regarding their purchased tickets. The full statement can be found on the Playground Weekender website.
