  • Elevate 2012 will take place from October 24th through the 28th at venues around Graz, Austria. Only a handful of artists have been announced so far for the intimate annual event. The Bug will curate and headline the Friday night event at Dom Im Berg, a venue deep inside a hill that's often the centerpiece of Graz's festivals. He'll play with Jamaican Ragga vocalist Daddy Freddy and Israeli singer Misss Red, plus more artists to be announced in the next two weeks. Berlin-based Japanese artist DJ Scotch Egg has curated Saturday's program, bringing in MC Sensational, Vex'd member Roly Porter and NHK'Koyxen. Also confirmed are Mosca, Andrés, A Made Up Sound, Skudge and Pional. As usual, there will be a robust non-musical portion to the festival as well. The "discourse and film programme" is called "Elevate the Apocalypse?", and will ponder whether the world can actually make a "societal transition to an economic system and a lifestyle... based on solidarity and respect fro the natural ecological boundaries of our planet" or whether humanity needs catastrophes to prompt such changes. There will also be a literary side to the festival called hoergeREDE, which pairs authors with musicians for a series of specially commissioned performances. More artists will be confirmed for Elevate over the next few months.
