  • On the first night of this year's Amsterdam Dance Event, Jeff Mills will mix a live soundtrack to the 1928 silent film Die Frau im Mond. Mills' music has been set to film plenty of times before; in 2011 alone, he released two original scores to old science fiction films: The Fantastic Voyage and 2087. In a way, Die Frau Im Mond ("The Woman In the Moon") is better suited to this kind of project than either of those two features: in their heyday, silent films were often given live soundtracks by hired musicians in the theatre. Granted, back then it was an organ player or a stringed quartet—this time it's Mills mixing fragments of techno records on four turntables. The so-called "Cine-Mix" is presented by I amtechno and will happen at EYE Films, a new film museum in Amsterdam. Tickets to the Jeff Mills Cine-Mix are available here on RA.
