  • Matmos will release a new album in February called The Marriage of True Minds. Much of Matmos's music has been built on highly unusual source material—for instance, samples of "snips, clicks, snaps, and squelches of various medical procedures"—but on their new album they just might outdo themselves. The Marriage of True Minds was made with the same odd process as the The Ganzfeld EP, which came out last month: in an imitation of the famous Ganzfeld experiment, the band put test subjects in a state of sensory deprivation by covering their eyes and playing white noise through headphones, then tried to transmit "the concept" of their record to them telepathically. Somehow, the "transcripts of the videotaped psychic experiments" became the foundation of the nine pieces on the album. On a much more conventional note, The Marriage of True Minds also has more vocals than their previous work, and features guest appearances from Dan Deacon, Dominique Leone and DJ Dog Dick among others.
