We round up the key parties taking place around the capital this New Year's.
The club listings for New Year's in London are frankly intimidating. To help, we've narrowed down some of the best events happening around the capital on December 31st and January 1st. While this is by no means a complete party guide to NYE and NYD—we'd need several thousand more words for that—we hope it'll set you on the right path.
Our roundup begins in Brixton with the Secretsundaze party, which features one of the best lineups you'll see anywhere in the city on December 31st: Levon Vincent, Shed, Point G, Tim Sweeney and DJ TLR are all locked in, as are party residents Giles Smith and James Priestley. Staying south of the river, the Trouble Vi5ion NYE bash at Corsica Studios can be filed as one for the heads—Theo Parrish will play a five-hour set, with Maurice Fulton (who will be playing as the clock strikes 12), Anthony Naples and Mr Beatnick joining him on the bill.
Over in Wapping, The Hydra kicks off their New Year's double-header with a Bugged Out! collaboration at Studio Spaces, with Erol Alkan, Daniel Avery and Ivan Smagghe; they'll also throw a New Year's Day bash, with Dixon, Âme and Move D at Fire. Half Baked will take over a TBA spot in East London with minimal don Baby Ford and Bruno Pronsato, while Krankbrother have invited Scuba, Guti, Shonky, Matt Tolfrey and Appleblim to spin at their NYE bash at Park Royal Studios in NW10. Sasha will headline Last Night On Earth at Brixton Academy, joined by Guy Gerber, Ellen Allien, Hot Since 82 and Laura Jones.
Dollop will take over the Troxy, with Ben UFO, Joy Orbison, Paul Woolford, Jackmaster, Oneman and Loefah. Fabric, meanwhile, will offer house in Room One (Dyed Soundorom, The Martinez Brothers) and techno in Room Two (DVS1, Skudge, Anthony Parasole).
If you're after something more intimate, Plastic People will offer a hundred or so clubbers the chance to bring in 2014 to the sounds of Nick Höppner, while the Love Fever crew will deck out an East London gallery space in their trademark style. Rhythm Section, the South London party we profiled earlier this year, will ring in 2014 with an "all vibes, all vinyl" night at their spiritual home, Canavan's Peckham Pool Club. The excellent World Unknown party will host its second NYE bash, with residents Andy Blake and Joe Hart presiding over the evening at a TBA venue somewhere in South London.
New Year's Day is a haven for partygoers looking to avoid the lines and general excess of New Year's Eve, a fact reflected by the ever-growing number of parties taking place. Bloc will return to Autumn Street Studios with Kowton and L.I.E.S. pair Ron Morelli and Svengalisghost, while the LWE bash at Tobacco Dock features Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex and tINI. Circo Loco hits The Coronet with Davide Squillace, Tale Of Us and a load more, and back at Corsica Studios, Tief will serve up a feast of disco and house with Todd Terje, Jay Shepheard, Daniel Wang and October. Nofitstate's bash kicks off at 6 PM at an undisclosed location, with Midland and Dense & Pika on the bill.
