We look at New Year's options in Melbourne.
There are a few intimate options on the cards for NYE. Techno fans can check out Billion Underground's Black party, held at a TBA inner-city warehouse location, with CLR producer Drumcell heading up a bill that also includes IF? Records boss Sebastian Bayne and BU residents Lorenzo and Matt Van Diemen. Up at The Toff In Town, Andee Frost will be hosting an entirely homegrown House De Frost lineup comprising Zanzibar Chanel, Andras Fox, Michael Ozone and Misty Nights, promising a lengthy session of leftfield disco explorations. Similarly, Midnight Juggernauts are taking the all-Melbourne approach at The Prince for a Siberia Records party with Roland Tings, Nile Delta, Naysayer & Gilsun and John Safran mysteriously appearing as DJ Dollywood.
January 1st brings a flock of internationals into town. Let Them Eat Cake 2014 kicks off at 11 AM, taking over Werribee Park with a range of house, techno, bass and disco acts like Eglo's Floating Points, Hyperdub boss Kode9 and LA beatsmith TOKiMONSTA. Head over to the RA stage where we'll have James Holden, DJ Koze and Julio Bashmore spinning among others. The Animals Dancing crew will also be putting on a multi-stage party at a West Melbourne warehouse with names like Big Strick, Tom Of England (AKA Rub N Tug's Thomas Bullock) and L.I.E.S. producer Willie Burns as well as local staples Tornado Wallace, Otologic and Sleep D who will play live. Just nearby at Central Pier's Peninsula, Welcome Summer 2014 will be headlined by New York veteran Danny Tenaglia, who will be appearing in the country for the first time in four years.
