  • Robert Hood will toast to 20 years of M-Plant with a series of EPs and a compilation. Founded in 1994, M-Plant is of a similar vintage to other influential Detroit labels like Underground Resistance and Axis Records. It has almost solely remained an outlet for Hood's own music, produced under his real name and aliases like Floorplan and Monobox. In 2014 the label will issue a series of EPs celebrating Hood's older work backed by new remixes and re-edits. All this material will then be gathered up into a compilation, due out later this year. Though precise details are yet to be revealed, expect classics like "Minimal Nation," "The Protein Valve" and "Minus" to feature. "I want to re-imagine M-Plant," says Hood. "The younger generation weren't even born when it started so I want to bridge the gap between the old and new. I don't want to make just another compilation. I want to celebrate the journey both looking back and to the future." This year will also see Hood play a number of "Grey Area" DJ sets, which a press release says will see him "delve through his entire artistic repertoire mixing classic, new, unreleased and obscure tracks from the M-Plant catalogue." The first Grey Area set will take place on February 22nd at Doornroosje in Holland.
