  • Australian festival institution the Big Day Out will not go ahead with its 2015 tour. Since the first Sydney event in 1992 with Nirvana, the brand has grown to become an Australian music icon, bringing some of the world's most popular alternative artists to the country including Bjork, Nine Inch Nails and the Beastie Boys. Following promoter changes and a decline in ticket sales for 2014 which left the festival in substantial debt, the brand's current owners, C3 Presents, the US company who also run Lollapalooza, have decided to call off the 2015 edition of the Big Day Out. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, former festival director AJ Maddah is suggesting that a 2016 tour is still in the works, however it is being widely speculated that the coming year's cancellation spells the end for the Australian institution.
