The seventh edition of the Bologna festival lands next month, with Ricardo Villalobos, Livity Sound, Jackmaster and Moderat also booked.
Started in 2008, Bologna's key electronic music event is now in its seventh year. In the lead-up to the main festival, James Holden will perform live at the Teatro Comunale on the evening of September 20th, followed by sets from Luke Abbott and Christian Löffler at Estragon. The festival proper will be split across two different venues: the 800-year old Palazzo Re Enzo will host film screenings, workshops and more avant-garde performances, while the Bologna Fiere welcomes a slew of house, techno and bass acts on Friday and Saturday.
Experimental duo Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit and low-end enthusiast Roly Porter will both perform on the opening day, with London's Fort Romeau the highlight on Thursday. Friday kicks off with a screening of two RA Real Scenes films, followed by sets from Valentin Stip and Dial chief Lawrence. The action continues into the early hours over at the Fiere, with the likes of Mathew Jonson, Ricardo Villalobos, Livity Sound, Actress and Craig Richards split between the main room and an RBMA stage.
Saturday will stick to a similar format, with evening performances from Go Dugong, James Ferraro and Príncipe favourite DJ Marfox preceding sets from Moodymann, Gold Panda, Lone, Factory Floor, Jackmaster and Dark Sky among others. The music will run later on the final night, finishing up at 4:30 AM. For a better sense of what to expect, check out our review of last year's event.
