  • Apple has released a Version 10.1 update of Logic Pro X. This new version of the DAW has electronic music producers in mind—it's big on "new features for EDM and Hip Hop track creation," Apple says, along with "tons of enhancements to streamline all types of music production." (You can read more about Logic Pro X in Jono Buchanan's tutorial on its last big overhaul.) Drummer, Logic's relatively new beat programming tool, is getting ten new "beat creators" focused on styles like tech house, trap and dubstep, and its on-board drum machines will come loaded with new kits aimed at electronic producers. The Logic Pro Sound Library is also getting lots of new samples and patches geared toward these genres. Sequencing will take on some new drum machine-style features, like note-repeat and spot-erase functions for sequence generation. And the ability to create wavetables based on your own audio files adds customisability to Logic's on-board Retro Synth. In terms of more general updates, Version 10.1 will feature region-based automation, a familiar feature of some other pro DAWs. Fades will now be rendered in real-time, doing away with fade files. Logic's compressor has been given a new look and some extra models based on classic designs. Apple have also made some changes to the software's mix functionality. Logic Pro 10.1 is now available from Apple at no cost to existing users. The software retails for $199.99 from the Mac App Store.
