  • Ecstatic Recordings will release a Daniele Ciullini retrospective on April 6th. Ciullini's collection to Ecstatic goes back to 2013's Mutazione compilation on Strut, which was put together by Walls member (and Ecstatic co-founder) Alessio Natalizia. Italian artist Daniele Ciullini was part of the TRAX collective, a group whose extensive and unusual network was hailed as a predecessor to modern file sharing. Domestic Exile brings together Ciullini's 1983 cassette of the same name, as well as a handful of tracks released on other albums from 1982 through to 1986. A press release describes it as a fusion of "ambient and industrial... echoing the synthetic alienation of 8-bit micromusic, the melodic wave sounds of Young Marble Giants and even a proto-shoegaze guitar." "The music in the original cassette release was born in a very difficult period of my life," says Ciulliini. "A period marked by a rift with the world. Domestic Exile reflects a time of recession, entrenchment within the walls of a tired soul. Most of the songs are improvised on the spot. Listening to the music today I think this aspect was perhaps naive. But I enjoyed realising something very close to my inner state at that moment."
