  • In an amazing announcement, Eiffel 65 have been chosen as a finalist for the 2003 Festival di Sanremo. The Italian trio achieved worldwide notoriety with their huge hit ‘Blue’ and follow-up ‘Move Your Body’ in 1999. After releasing the ‘Europop’ album, the third single ‘Too Much Of Heaven’ flopped and was the last time anyone (well, us at least) heard of them. In a neat eurodance where-are-they-now segue, former Hitz FM favourite Alexia will return to Sanremo this year after a deserved second placing in last year’s competition. Alexia, you may remember (although you may not want to admit it), set commercial clubs on fire in the mid-nineties with hits such as ‘Me and You’, ‘Summer is Crazy’, and ‘Ooh La La La’. Whigfield wished she was this good. The Sony artist has reinvented herself as a somewhat more credible singer, with her jazzy, poppy ‘Dimmi Come’ (‘Tell Me How’) regarded by many as the best song of Sanremo 2002. It remains to be seen how Eiffel 65 will fare against a program featuring rock, hip hop, and ballads. Then again, we’re yet to hear their entry, titled ‘Quelli Che Non Hanno Età ((The Ageless Oness). This will be the 53rd edition of Sanremo, the world-famous Italian precursor to Eurovision, and will feature 18 other Italian greats from the past and present. The competition will take over the Italian town of the same name from March 4-8.
