- Mute Records have announced details of MG, his first album in over a decade.
Martin Gore will release MG via Mute Records on April 28th.
The songwriter and founding member of Depeche Mode recorded the 16-track instrumental LP in 2013 at his home studio in Santa Barbara. "I wanted to keep the music very electronic, very filmic and give it an almost sci-fi like quality," Martin explains of the album, which he'll release under the moniker MG. "Music is a necessity for me. I go into the studio at least five days a week, every week, so once I had the idea and the template, the process was quick and fun."
MG follows the 2012 release of SSSS by Gore's VCMG project, a duo that also includes former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke. Both records were mastered by longtime collaborator and studio engineer Q. You can listen to the first album cut, "Europa Hymn," which sees Gore working within a minimalist framework, below.
