Cascade and The Deluge, out this spring, are variations of the same composition.
The LA producer is most famous for his work with tape loop composition, particularly 2002's The Disintegration Loops, which has gone down as one of the most seminal ambient records of recent years. These new albums, Basinski's first since 2013, explore familiar territory, according to FACT.
Cascade is a "single ancient lilting piano tape loop [that] repeats endlessly," while The Deluge takes the same sound and processes it through feedback loops of various lengths. The former will see release through Basinski's own 2062 on CD and digital formats on April 28th, and also comes with a download code for The Deluge. That one will get its own release, on white vinyl, through Temporary Residence Limited on May 26th. You can watch a video for "Cascade (The Deluge)" below.
