- The German glitch-hop progenitors will release their fourth album in June.
Funkstörung will release their eponymous fourth album via Monkeytown Records on June 26th.
The group comprised of Michael Fakesch and Chris De Luca is breaking a near ten-year silence. They;ve previously put out records on labels like The Hague's Bunker Records (as Musik Aus Strom), Compost Records and their longtime home of Studio !K7. The tireless remixers worked with everyone from Björk to the Wu Tang Clan, with two of their four albums compiling glitchy, hip-hop influenced versions for fellow artists.
After stepping away from the project in 2006, Fakesch would continue with remix and commercial work while De Luca toured with side-project CLP and moved to Detroit. After considerable time apart, Mouse On Mars member Andy Thoma convinced the team to get back in the studio to feature on his band's 21 Again project. Following the collaboration, the label says: "De Luca and Fakesch felt like locking themselves in the studio and playing each other their favourite tracks from the last (and lost) decade—an idea that proved very fruitful and got them to producing music together again. Just for fun they programmed tracks with a huge variety from breaky and heavy hip-hop beats to skillfully written pop songs. The more they worked together, the more they realized what they were looking for: to make an album."
The duo worked with a number of vocalists on Funkstörung, including Jamie Lidell and Audego, who features on album opener "Fall Into You." Check out the clip for that track below.
