  • Alex Cobb, the mind behind the Cincinnati-based label Students of Decay, has a new album on the way. Cobb's own music has been a key part of Students of Decay, which recently earned our label of the month nod, since he started the imprint back in 2005. He previously worked as Taiga Remains (he's got close to two dozen releases credited to that alias) but these days he sticks to his given name, and Chantepleure is the third solo full-length produced as such. Made with guitar and effects, the album is described as his "most optimistic and sanguine musical statement to date," though one "created at a time of heartache, isolation and emotional upheaval." It comprises four tracks, with the 16 minute-long final piece "Path of Appearance" handling just about half its overall running time. After a delay attributed to Record Store Day "traffic jams" at the record plant—a key reason why RSD is now considered something of an annual nuisance for many independent labels—Chantepleure is due to arrive on vinyl and digital formats near the end of the month. You can tune in to the three A-side tracks below.
