The free, early-August festival is changing locations and expanding in its second year.
The free, all-ages event, thrown by Motor City party people Charivari, had a successful start last year at Milliken State Park and Harbor. It's now making a location switch while assembling an even bigger music lineup, prompting another name for the weekend's festivities: Belle Isle Big. The setting this year will be Belle Isle Park, an island park situated on the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, and the expanded program—"the largest lineup of Detroit-based DJs anywhere"—features plenty of returning guests along with lots more Detroit-related favorites.
In all, more than 80 artists are due to appear, including Moodymann, Juan Atkins, Delano Smith, Theo Parrish, Norm Talley and Eddie Fowlkes, along with Stacey Hale, Kyle Hall, Jay Daniel, the Detroit Techno Militia and Kevin Reynolds. Mike Grant, Chuck Daniels, Ari Frank and Lauren Velluci are just a few more DJs on a deep squad that will keep the music going from noon to 10 PM each day. You can also expect some pre-party and afterparty action to be announced closer to the date.
