  • Canadian artist Konrad Black is linking up with Meander for The Scorched Earth EP, his first solo techno record in a decade. Black hasn't put out a solo 12-inch for the dance floor since Draconia, released on Wagon Repair back in 2005. (He's certainly stayed busy in the interim as a touring DJ, sound designer and soundtrack producer, not to mention a studio collaborator and remixer.) The Scorched Earth EP, which "draws key inspiration from recent earth-bound meteorites and the blinding light that follows," according to a press release, marks his debut on Meander, which has featured the likes of Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts, Imugem Orihasam, Ion Ludwig and label boss DeWalta over the years. The new EP packs two lengthy cuts, "Silene Dust" and "Sycho Te Alyn," along with an ambient track, "Chelyabinsk Afterglow." It'll come first on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl on August 27th. A digital version will follow on September 17th. Black is also working on a few other projects. He's once again teaming with producer and filmmaker Jeremy Shaw (previously known as Circlesquare—they first collaborated when Black co-produced his 2003 LP Pre-Earthquake Anthem ) for an audiovisual album called There In Spirit. He's also been recruited for remixes of the 2003 track "Hi Time" from Lopazz and Alex Cortex, and Mathew Jonson's 2004 classic "Decompression." They'll land at some point in 2016, though further details are still TBA. Listen to a track from The Scorched Earth EP below.
