  • A new nightspot in East London called The Pickle Factory will open this October. The Pickle Factory, which actually was a pickle factory in a previous life, has been designed by Oval Space cofounder Jordan Gross and design engineer and sustainability consultant Michael Guerra. It's located opposite Oval Space and is being described by its founders as "an intimate new space for music lovers." We're told to expect "minimal frills, stripped-back lighting and a top of the range, as-yet-unreleased soundsystem" by German company d&b audiotechnik. In addition to The Pickle Factory's main room, there is an outdoor courtyard. Though no lineups have been released yet, the venue has outlined its programming policy. Live shows will happen midweek. Fridays are being overseen by the Oval Space team with a focus on "plenty of unannounced guests, no more than three artists per night, and all-night long sets as standard." Saturdays will be given over to a rotating programme of London promoters. The Pickle Factory has been open as a space for food pop-ups, art exhibitions and other events since 2013. The news comes one day after details of a report by The Association Of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) showed that the number of nightclubs in the UK had dwindled from 3,144 in 2005 to 1,733 in 2015.
