The synth manufacturer has announced the initial lineup for its May 2016 festival, now taking place in Durham.
The festival has seen some big changes in recent years, among them going biennial and moving to Durham from Asheville. Moogfest draws liberally from a variety of genres, giving synth pioneers equal footing with modern day experimentalists and indie rock artists. They've booked Gary Numan for three straight nights, where he'll perform his first three albums, Replicas, Pleasure Principle and Telecon. Laurie Anderson will also appear, as will Suzanne Ciani, Sun Ra Arkestra, Mark Mothersbaugh and Daniel Lanois.
Ambient trailblazers The Orb head up Moogfest's dance lineup, which also includes DJ Harvey, Kyle Hall, Robert Hood, and a live set from Floating Points. Paula Temple, Lotic and Actress bridge the gap between the dance acts and the event's experimental offerings, comprising Tim Hecker, Sunn O))), Oneohtrix Point Never, The Haxan Cloak and Alessandro Cortini, among others.
The Wu Tang Clan's GZA will hold a two-night stand in Durham and ethereal pop acts Julia Holter and Julianna Barwick are set to play intimate shows in a church. Moogfest also sees the debut performance of the Arthur Russell's Instrumentals ensemble, directed by downtown fixture Peter Gordon and featuring Gavin Russom.
