Keysound Recordings's next EP comes from OKZharp and Samrai.
OKZharp is South African producer Gervase Gordon, who was part of LV (in the Sebenza days) before striking out on his own. Late last year, he released an RA Recommended debut EP for Hyperdub, featuring vocalist Manthe Ribane. Samrai, meanwhile, hails from Manchester, and is a founding member of the Swing Ting collective.
The Gated 12-inch focuses on the titular instrumental, which the label says became a "pivotal record" at their Keysound Sessions parties. The record sees the two producers working with three different vocalists: Jamaican Shokryme, UK singer Specialist Moss and Ruffest, from South Africa, who appeared on Sebenza. The record was "hot mixed" by the duo in London, with each recorded in one take. Though the official release date is April 22nd, Gated will also be available at the Keysound stall at the Independent Label Market in London on the 2nd.
